Maureen Kägi, Ludwig Kittinger

artist in residence
16. 08 - 6. 09. 2025

Maureen Kägi’s work spans a broad spectrum, ranging from painting and drawing to performances and conceptual approaches involving space and the environment. She uses acrylic markers in various colors to create geometric networks of lines that often evoke illusions of movement, fluidity, and blurriness, which she then recontextualizes through the use of oil and/or acrylic paint. Comparable to the relationship between the fleeting and the fixed, organic and constructed elements merge—according to the principle of synthesis through dissolution—into a new unity. Her practice is characterized by an interplay of chance and control, as well as between refusal and persistence. By manipulating materials, she shifts their inherent qualities and sharpens her focus on themes such as the acceleration of society, visual myopia, and explores resonant relationships with the environment.

Ludwig Kittinger's work stands in a constant relationship to an attribute of the crafts: the regular experience that tools and materials exert their own reality and possess a vitality that goes far beyond the subject-object correlation. When things appear in the mode of being "ready-to-hand" as opposed to merely "present-at-hand," they can only be used by connecting with their autonomous tendency. Some of his works recall reenactments of forms or methods from the pre-industrial past. Generating a form of visual resistance, his work reflects the artist’s dialogue with tactile and material qualities, weaving in an ecological critique.
